Matariki Stars

Matariki is the 7 stars of the cluster which is 500 stars. The names of the stars are Waiti Waita Waipuna rangi Tupu a rangi Tupu a Nuku Uru a rangi  and last of all Matariki. Matariki is a cluster of 500 stars but you can only see 7 with you're naked eye. Maori  used the stars to  navigate them to New Zealand.

Maori celebrated Matariki by having a hangi. A hangi is a meal that is cooked underground. The Maori celebrate Matariki because it is Maori New Year. They also spend some time thinking of there past ones.

The Maori harvest there crops when Matariki comes. They say that if the food comes out fabulous than they now it is going to be a great  year. I am Proud to be MAORI
